Manchester Chinese Academy of Dance (MCAD) is a professional dance organisation with the mission of promoting Chinese culture in the UK. Specialising in Chinese classical dance and Chinese folk dance, we are committed to spreading the art of Chinese dance to the wider community. MCAD is devoted to showcasing the many types of traditional Chinese dance.

MCAD places a strong emphasis on adhering to high professional standards by adopting a syllabus used by prestigious dance academies in China. We aim to give every student the most careful guidance and provide a professional learning environment and communication platform for Chinese dance enthusiasts. Our goal is to embrace Chinese culture by showing the world the beauty of Chinese dance.

Our Team

Jiajie (Jodie) – Director
Jiajie has more than 20 years of professional dance training in various disciplines including Ballet, Latin and Chinese Classical Dance. She has a bachelor’s degree in Chinese classical dance from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and a master’s degree in Choreography from the University of Roehampton, London. An award winning choreographer in China, she previously worked at Xiamen Art School as a dance teacher and choreographer. A dance teacher by trade, she is passionate about bringing Chinese dance and culture to a wider audience.  (DBS checked)

Ziao (Ana) Wang – Dance Teacher
Ana is currently a Chinese Dance Teacher and K-Pop Dance Teacher at our school. She holds an MA from the University of Leeds, is a member of the IDTA and holds Folk Dance Examination Teacher certification from the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy. Ana is also a member of Shenzhen Dancers Association and holds Beijing Dance Academy Ballet Grade Exam Level 8 and Chinee Dance Grade Exam Level XIII. She was recently awarded the highest prize in the 2021 International Taoli Cup Preliminary Competition and achieving the Top Ten Platinum Award. She has also participated in the opening ceremony of the National Chinese Games. (DBS checked)

Ran Wei – Chinese Dance Teacher
She holds a Master’s degree and a postgraduate certificate from University College London. Having studied dance from a young age, she has over 20 years of training and performance experience. In China, she was awarded First Prize in the Beijing Municipal Dance Competition and Third Prize in a national-level competition. She has also passed the graded examinations in Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance and obtained a professional certificate in Dance & Performance in Chinese Ethnic Folk Dance. Ran Wei actively participates in major arts and cultural events across the UK, frequently performing as a soloist and lead dancer. She has been featured twice by the BBC and has contributed significantly to promoting Chinese culture and dance in various cities throughout the country. (DBS checked)
